Fedora now reserves resources for active user on Workstation
With this enhancement, Fedora adds cgroup
based resource protections for the active graphical session. For this, the system performs the following steps:
-
Passes a memory protection of 250MiB to the active users, that is limited at 10% of system memory.
-
Enables other cgroup controllers such as CPU, IO, between others.
This ensures that important session processes get the required resources. As a result, it improves interactivity of graphical sessions in certain situations. It also takes advantage of the benefits of systemd
and cgroups
in workstation scenarios.
The earlyoom
service is now enabled by default in Fedora KDE
Starting with Fedora 33, the earlyoom
service is enabled by default when using the KDE desktop environment. See the Distribution-wide Changes section for details.
Fedora Workstation now uses Btrfs by default
